Just to show you that New Mexico has connections far and wide across the country, Lee Baca, the sheriff of Los Angeles County in California, said his father was born in Albuquerque, as was his father’s father.

“My mother was born in Silver City,” he said.

Baca is a member of the newly impaneled Homeland Security Advisory Council, which is meeting at University of New Mexico today.

Baca cracked that he was happy to be back in New Mexico where he could run to a local restaurant to eat all the green and red child he could.
