What did you miss while you were rafting down the Rio Grande, eating hot dogs and drinking Marble IPA all weekend?

Well, Las Cruces commentator Michael Swickard wrote a thoughtful column about the U.S. Constitution, how it’s been shaped, used, and misused since its creation, and how this document will play out in the future of American politics.

Over at La Politica, NMSU political scientist Jose Garcia drew some interesting connections between drug addiction and treatment centers in Ciudad Juarez and Denver. Despite many similarities between these different cities’ problems with drug addiction and rehabilitation, violence largely changes the scene in Juarez as compared to the Denver area.

Peter St. Cyr covered the Teamsters Union’s endorsement of Richard Romero for mayor of Albuquerque, which comes on the heels of AFSCME’s endorsement of the as-yet-undeclared candidate, incumbent Mayor Martin Chavez. The Teamsters chose to support Romero due to his past voting records in labor legislation.

Meanwhile, a post on Democracy for New Mexico discussed the Impact of Heath Care Reform report from the White House Council of Economic Advisers.  The Obama Administration plan-of-action includes “containing cost while maintaining quality and choice, and providing affordable care for all Americans.”

And finally, Matt Brix from Clearly New Mexico criticized the Albuquerque Journal again with a post claiming that the Journal continues to treat the reporting of news as opinion pieces on their editorial pages.  He warned ABQ Journal readers to exercise caution while dealing with the paper.
