N.M. Democratic Party chairman applauds Obama health care speech

Barack Obama held a town hall meeting in Green Bay, Wisconsin about health care reform.

Obama advocated the public option, saying, “If the private insurance companies have to compete with a public option, it will keep them honest and help keep prices down.”

Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Brian Colon reacted to the speech in a statement today, in which he said he supported Obama’s efforts.

The task of bringing about health care reform will be difficult and the special interests — the opponent of reform — will be vocal. Over the course of the next few months all Americans need to stand with President Obama and those in Congress who are paving the road for a health care system that brings quality and provides choice and access. The time for health care reform is now and the urgency for change has never been greater. However, the only way reform will come is if New Mexicans stand up and make their voices heard at this critical time.
