Three incumbent Albuquerque city councilors won the endorsement of one of the city’s most influential public employees unions.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union announced its support for the councilors re-election bids in a press release sent out Tuesday afternoon. The municipal election will be held October 6.

Councilors Isaac Benton, Ken Sanchez and Michael Cadigan have “stood with working families and city employees and we are very thankful for that. We look forward to helping them get re-elected and to four more years of their leadership on the city council,” said Monica Sandoval in the release on behalf of city and water utility authority workers.

AFSCME represents 3,500 city of Albuquerque employees, and another 12,000 state, city, county and university workers across New Mexico.
