U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján supports repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’

According to Democracy for New Mexico, Congressman Ben Ray Luján, like a majority of Americans, supports the repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy that prohibits lesbians and gay men from serving openly.

Luján called Barb Wold to tell her about his support for the repeal after a post on her blog yesterday asking if any of the three members of the U.S. House delegation supported the repeal.

Yesterday’s Democracy for New Mexico blog post was mentioned in NMI’s Blog Roundup from this afternoon.

I’m very pleased to report that Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D, NM-03) called personally this afternoon to explain that there was some foul up with the co-sponsor list, and that he should, in fact, be listed as a co-sponsor of H.R. 1283. Rep. Luján said he supports the repeal of DADT and the letter to the President urging him to act. He said he was checking with his staff and others to find out what had happened, but he wanted to make sure folks back in New Mexico knew of his support for (repeal of) DADT.

Wold has not heard from either Congressman Martin Heinrich or Congressman Harry Teague, both New Mexico Democrats, on the issue.
