The Minnesota Supreme Court has ruled that Democrat Al Franken should be seated as a U.S. Senator, rejecting a challenge by incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman of the results of the 2008 election.
The decision would give the Democrats a 60th vote in the Senate.
Although Coleman could still appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, Minnesota’s GOP Gov. Tim Pawlenty told CNN over the weekend that he would sign off on any decision the state’s high court made:
“I’m prepared to sign [the certification] as soon as they give the green light,” Pawlenty said. “I’m not going to defy an order of the Minnesota Supreme Court. That would be a dereliction of my duty.”
