Earlier today, Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Brian S. Colón also responded to Steve Pearce’s announcement that he’s running for his old congressional seat.
But after a fairly standard attack on Pearce, Colón went on to seemingly attack one of the country’s most prominent Democrats — ex-President Bill Clinton.
In the statement issued by the state Democratic Party, Colón said that Pearce’s ”crushing defeat last November doesn’t appear to have slowed his desire to return to the politics of the past eight years.”
The overall theme of the statement was that Colón believes that Pearce, the unsuccessful GOP U.S. Senate candidate last year, would represent a step backwards. Colón added, “Steve Pearce is nothing more than a return to the failed policies of the last two administrations.”
Of course, the last two administrations were George W. Bush, a Republican, and Bill Clinton, a Democrat — which makes it look as if Colón were attacking Clinton’s policies along with those of his much less popular Republican successor.
Pearce was not in Congress during Clinton’s administration, only during the Bush administration.
Of Pearce, Colón went on to state, “His time in Washington was marked with out of control spending, raising the national debt by $2 trillion, and economic policies that led to our current economic crisis.”
Updated:
The Democratic Party has sent out an updated version of the release which reads, “Steve Pearce is nothing more than a return to the failed policies of the last two terms of the Bush administration.”
As we pointed out, Pearce only served in Congress under the two terms of the Bush administration.
