Statements such as: "the women who make an average of $800.00 a week are most likely ignorant of many things. Having sex without protection or prevention is one of them" and "An ignorant poor woman is not my responsibility to take care of" show a lack of compassion and understanding from the person making the comment.
First of all, why is all of the focus being put on "the ignorant poor woman"? I can guarantee you that she did not become pregnant on her own. There should be dual responsibility for both parties, male and female, and we should try to be more understanding of the difficult decisions women face, such as unplanned pregnancies, perhaps with little or no support from their partner.
Secondly, people living in rural areas with limited access to higher education may make only $800.00 per month, but this does not make them poor or ignorant, nor does this mean that they should be denied access to services that more middle class, suburban or city-dwelling Americans take advantage of. Furthermore, an intelligent young woman who is enrolled at University or community college may make less than $800.00 per month and, as is shockingly normal in the US, be without healthcare or financial support from her family. But this does not make her "poor or ignorant" and, in the event of an unplanned pregnancy (which may I remind you can occur even when an individual is using contraception - and really, can you tell me you have NEVER had unprotected sex?), she should have the right to have an abortion and finish her education, which will offer her a much more promising future, should she so choose.

I was sitting in a local court, it was a few minutes before the trial began, and the defendents were being held on NM truancy laws -- their kids were not going to school. They were a poor family, single mother, and her female relatives were all there to "back her up" during this emotional time. While waiting for the judge, they were chatting about a sister or niece who was also single and had just found out she was pregnant, and they were happy for this person. I heard this because I was sitting not too far away. And I thought to myself, they really don't get it, do they. There is a cycle of negligence in terms of trying to develop a strong, supportive family unit to keep their kids out of trouble, get an education, make something of themselves, and to knock off this dependency on the government. They just keep doing this for generation after generation. And the father, who was not present, had a warrant for his arrest for meth production. The bailiff was ordered to arrest the man on sight, should he show up to the truancy trial.

Now we have Democratic liberals who want to further extend the government's ability to baby-sit these people who thrive in this economic/psychological squalor. Not all people have the mental mindset to utilize what resources are already available to get themselves out of these horrible conditions, but thanks to socialization, there is no impetus to do so. There is no external drive for them to attempt to better themselves. Take that security blanket away, and they will be forced to do something aside from working at gas stations and producing illegal narcotics for a living.

All of this talk about abortion and contraception being a moral and responsible choice sounds exactly like the advertizements I hear encouraging people to get their pets spade or neutered. Am I supposed to think of people the same as I do pets? Is it right to take steps against over-population by spade/neutering people? Guess not, so we do the next best thing, kill the offspring or try to prevent the offspring from being made. It would be too hard to drown them in a bucket, like we do with puppies and kittens (that's hard enough as it is), so if we do it before they have a chance to cry, catch 'em early as it were, then we can justify to ourselves this procedure.

If you want to spend government money on preventing young, single, poor women from mass producing, then spend government money on improving the educational system. Get more teachers, decrease the class size, get some interest back in the schools with art and music, and develop educational outreach to help these young people realize the importance of a good education and making something of themselves, of realizing their full potential. Can you imagine how great our society would be if everyone was trying to reach their full potential? With an educated mind, these young people might very well be taking responsibility for themselves. Right now there is a psychological cycle of drug abuse, victim mentality, calous sexual relations, and dependency. End the disease, and the symptoms will take care of themselves.

Why is it that some people want to live in a nanny state where the government takes care of you from cradle to grave. YOUR ABORTION IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS. Having said that lets get to the real point and that is for example, the women who make an average of $800.00 a week are most likely ignorant of many things. Having sex without protection or prevention is one of them. What the progressives what is to validate irresponsible behavior by providing a free pass when the real solution is to educate these women that they have a responsibly to themselves and to society to not reproduce if they cannot and in most case unwilling and unable to care for a human child.

People are not entitled to handouts without giving something in return. An ignorant poor woman is not my responsibility to take care of. If you want to do it go ahead. In my case I feel we should have strings attached to any government aid like training.

One problem with the progressives besides being narrow minded true believes is they do not want to hold people accountable for their actions. They make excuses for everything and the consequences are dire for society.

Henshaw is an academic who thinks people are like him, that is rational and well intended. He has no idea about the reality the low life and ignorant live in. Even if "health policy should focus more on better access and use of contraceptives" it won't make a difference. Try to get a drunk low life male to use a condom and see how far you get.

Think about how stupid this sounds, "Everyone has a right to express their sexuality. That’s a sacred gift". A sacred gift? Where does that come from? Being judgmental is what we need. All this BS from progressives comes from their heads, not reality. They are just as ignorant of life as the low life.

Here is another idiot statement, "“We do need to pour more money into contraception. Contraception is very responsible. And when contraception fails, abortion is a moral and responsible choice.” There is nothing moral or immoral about abortion it is simply a medical procedure. Contraception fails because those who should use it DON'T. The root is the personal irresponsibility of individuals that if addressed and that means being judgmental would solve a lot of problems. That is root cause.
