Everyone expected Gov. Bill Richardson to receive a speaking spot at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), but no one really predicted that U.S. Rep. Tom Udall would also be speaking at the convention.
Udall, who is also the Democratic candidate for New Mexico’s open U.S. Senate seat, will address the convention next Wednesday, according to a press release. Udall will be joined by other Democratic Senate candidates from around the country and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
"As a proud Westerner and candidate for the United States Senate, it is my honor to take part in this historic convention for change," said Udall. "In my home state of New Mexico and around the nation, it’s clear that voters will have a choice between leaders who will fight for our middle class and do what’s right no matter what, or those who choose to stand for the same failed policies of the past."
Interestingly, Udall’s cousin — Rep. Mark Udall — who is running for the U.S. Senate in Colorado, is not currently scheduled to speak at the convention. The convention is being held in Denver Aug. 25-28.
Richardson will speak on the same night. The night’s headliner will be the vice presidential nominee — whoever it is.
