Republican Party of New Mexico attacks Lt. Gov. Diane Denish

The Republican Party of New Mexico is attacking Democratic gubernatorial candidate Diane Denish with a TV ad that starts today — nearly a year and a half before the election, KRQE reports.

So far, the Republican Party isn’t even sure that Lt. Gov. Denish will be the Democratic candidate, though the party obviously thinks that this is likely.

The ad tries to tie Denish to play-to-play scandals, in this case when Denish cast the tiebreaking vote in the state Senate to allow increased gambling in the state. The Republican Party ad says that Denish was originally against the legislation, but after receiving campaign donations from gambling interests, changed her mind.

Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Brian Colon responded by telling KRQE in a statement, “The Republican Party of New Mexico is already desperately beginning the negative attacks that often come from a party running scared.”
