According to D.C. publication, Martin Heinrich is the hottest on The Hill

Every summer, usually devoid of other political stories, the Washington D.C. newspaper The Hill holds their People-magazine-like “50 Most Beautiful” people on The Hill. This year’s winner? None other than Albuquerque Democrat Martin Heinrich.

First-term U.S. Rep. Heinrich, a 37 year-old married father of two, might  be a bit red-faced when asked about his latest honor.

Heinrich is an avid hiker — in fact, a fundraising idea Heinrich came up with as a candidate was that all those who donated before a certain deadline were entered in a contest to go on a hike with the now congressman from New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. But those mountains are a little harder to get to from Washington, D.C. these days for Heinrich.

So how does he stay in shape?

“It improves my outlook enormously if I spend part of the day walking back and forth to the Capitol outdoors as opposed to underground,” Heinrich told The Hill.

Michael Coleman of the Albuquerque Journal, however, would have switched the top-two up.

“Sure, Heinrich’s a good-looking guy. But if I was voting, I probably would have had to bump Kay Gerard – The Hill’s #2 most beautiful – up to number one,” Coleman wrote.

Gerard is a scheduler for Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine.

Last year’s winner was Tulani Elisa, a legislative assistant for U.S. Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

And in case you were wondering, the Twitter buzz on the list (people in D.C. seem to love Twitter more than in any other city) can be found at the hashtag #CapHill50.
