U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-New Mexico, spoke on the Senate floor yesterday in support of the nomination to the Supreme Court of Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Sotomayor is the first selection by President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court and is expected to be confirmed easily, as a number of Republicans have said they will vote for her.
Udall defended Sotomayor’s “empathy,” saying, “I think it would be sad for us to confirm Sonia Sotomayor but allow her empathy to be discredited as a human emotion and judicial asset.”
“She has earned her right to serve on the nation’s highest court and I look forward to supporting her confirmation,” the former New Mexico Attorney General said.
