TODAY’S BLOG ROUNDUP: The health care debate rages on

By | 08.13.09 | 1:03 pm

The blogosphere is blowin’ up over health care today.

Blogger (and local AFSCME political guru) Carter Bundy writes on the “assumptions that fail” in regard to comparing normal free market principles to the field of health care. He explains why this is much more than an issue of economics. Bundy writes:

The normally beautiful checks and balances of free markets don’t — and can’t — work in the world of health care.

From assumptions… to lies! SWOPblogger posts the “Top Five Health Care Reform Lies,” taken from Moveon.org. The list covers so-called “death panels,” Medicare, competition and funding issues.

With all this doubt in the air, has the Rio Grande Foundation found a solution? Their blog, Errors of Enchantment, responds to the heath care debate with, “Heath Care: Problem Solved.” This post covers a recent Wall Street Journal article suggesting that “individual freedom and choice,” without higher taxes and increased governmental involvement, is the fix for our heath care woes. Make sure to read the fine print.

On the local level, Deomocracy for New Mexico writes on how federal changes can benefit New Mexico specifically. Check out these links to some White House Web sites regarding heathcare misinformation, fact sheets and transcripts of Obama’s remarks at a recent townhall meeting on healthcare reform.

Finally, if you are sick of health care reform (no pun intended) see why NewMexiKen believes the future of television may be much worse than the decline of print journalism. He links to an Atlantic Business Channel story, while comments to his blog link to alternate opinions on the subject.
