Arnold-Jones to hold gubernatorial kick-off rally Sunday

State Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones plans to formally enter the 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary on Sunday.

She will hold her rally at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque on Sunday from 4-6 p.m., according to an announcement on her Facebook page.

The event was expected. In July, Arnold-Jones said she was running for governor but had to postpone a formal announcement until she recovered from a necessary surgery to repair torn muscles in her leg.

The Republican’s campaign Web site states that she plans to focus her campaign on ethics, education, infrastructure and service.

“A central theme of my candidacy will be ‘connectivity,’” her Web site states. “By focusing on the power of connectivity in — telephone, cable, fiber, wireless, satellite and internet communication, energy and energy transmission, roads, and individual participation — we can overcome our geography, honor our environment, enhance the education of our children and improve our economic well being.”

There are several other Republicans running or considering running for governor. Doña Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez has already declared her candidacy. Public relations professional Doug Turner appears to be about to formally jump into the race, and Former state GOP Chairman Allen Weh has formed an exploratory committee. Former U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson says she’s thinking about running.
