The SFReeper’s Dave Maass is reporting that San Miguel County Clerk Paul Maez received immunity into the investigation of possible embezzlement by Public Regulations Commissioner Jerome Block Jr. Maass cites court papers filed August 4.

Maez admitted that Block paid Wyld Country — the country-western band in which Maez plays — $2,500 in campaign funds to play at a campaign event that never happened. Maez returned an additional $1,700 payment to the band from Block.

The payments came during a six-way Democratic primary for the Public Regulations Commission spot which Block eventually won. Block also won in the general election against Green Party candidate Rick Lass.
