The tax cuts for wealthiest New Mexicans was given when the state was flush with budget surpluses. Times have changed. Lawmakers need to roll back those tax cuts and use the revenues to restore education cuts and prevent more cuts. The last thing lawmakers should do in a recession is to cut spending. Giving tax cuts to the wealthiest and big out-of-state corporations has failed to save, or produce more jobs. New Mexico has the highest unemployment rate in 12 years, 31,000 of our taxpaying citizens are out of work today. The rich don't need the tax cuts anymore. Public schools, colleges and universities need these tax revenues. John Nothdurft believes that a free market exists. He lives in the past. The only thing that will save New Mexico and the USA from another Great Depression is to increase public spending on education, government services and a public option healthcare program.

Has anyone thought of a mixture of tax increases and spending cuts. I bet that is what the legislators do.

And another of the economists cited is Arthur Laffer, creator of the Laffer supply side delusion which contributed mightily to the Great Recession of 2008-9.
Also, as barbwire notes, California got where it is today by way of shirking its tax responsibilities
Which fits nicely with the Heartland Institute's mission - neuter government so that corporations can continue to call the shots.
Arthur Alpert

The least you could do if you're mentioning a post on my blog is to include a link to it.

I believe your reasoning is wrong as well, given the fact that California got into long-term trouble by failing to adequately fund it's once excellent education system as well as other things that serve human needs. Now there are huge holes in the budget. Bribing our wealthiest citizens with unnecessary and unfair tax cuts and paying for them by cutting services to those with real human needs is not only immoral, it's unwise.

I also want people to know that one of the people you cite, Stephen Moore, is a well known right-wing extremist who founded and ran the notorious Club for Growth until 2004, and who now writes as a member of the infamous Wall Street Journal Editorial Board. What he provides is hardly a fair look at tax and economic policies.
