Controversial former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will appear in Hobbs on Sept. 10 and speak at the Hispano Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet, the Associated Press is reporting.
At the banquet, Gonzales will reportedly speak to high school seniors “about the importance of higher education,” according to the Associated Press.
Gonzales, the nation’s first Hispanic attorney general, resigned in August of 2007. Members of Congress accused Gonzales of committing perjury in relation to the firing of several U.S. attorneys in 2006, including New Mexico’s former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias.
Iglesias said in a movie from this year that Gonzales lied under oath.
