Actually, give the Obama/Pelosi/Reid style of governing, it is pretty safe to say that the Democratic Party is the new Party of the Rich.

All I need to point out is the billions in bailouts-wait, make that trillions-and backstopping of loans for AIG, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, ADM, etc.

The average Joe is taking it in the shorts while the hyper-rich are making out like bandits, literally.

“Democrats once responded effectively to the bread-and-butter concerns of the middle-class and the poor.” Actually they cater to the poor for votes but I don't think they really like them. They cater to the rich with favors for donations (tort lawyers, rich liberals, certain financial organizations, union funds, etc). Neither party really caters to the middle class. We aren't rich enough for blue nose Republicans and the Democrats can't tax the money we don't have. It would be nice to have a party that practiced personal integrity, honesty, and fiscal responsibility.
