ABQ mayoral race: Chavez first television ad comes over Labor Day

By | 09.08.09 | 9:03 am

Incumbent Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez released his first television ad over the Labor Day weekend.

In the 30 second spot, he leads with an acknowledgement that the city is “facing challenging times with the national recession.” He then said he’d increase the police force by 100 officers, continue to focus on renewable energy, and work to improve Albuquerque’s high school graduation rate.

The ad, which aired on Fox TV beginning Friday of Labor Day weekend, followed one released last week by one of Chavez’s challengers, two-term state Rep. Richard “R.J.” Berry. Former State Senate President Pro Tem Richard Romero has yet to release a television ad.
