If reelected, will Chavez serve the full four-year term? (Updated)

By | 09.09.09 | 6:12 am

During the course of the mayoral campaign to date,  incumbent Mayor Martin Chavez has been repeatedly questioned by his challengers about why he led the charge to overturn the city’s mayoral term limits. Chavez’s successful effort led to his present ability to run for an unprecedented third consecutive term as mayor.

If he wins, it’ll be his fourth term overall.

Here at NMI, we thought we’d flip question on its head since the other job Chavez has repeatedly said he’d like to have (other than mayor) is up for grabs next year —  governor.

In an email to Chavez campaign spokesperson Joanie Griffin Tuesday afternoon, we asked:

Will the mayor commit to serving out his full term if re-elected to a fourth term, and not run for another office that would cause him to leave the mayoral office early?

No response yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know if one comes in anytime soon.

UPDATE: Chavez campaign spokesperson Joanie Griffin had no comment on the record to this question.
