Las Cruces man stirs up controversy by flying swastika flag

"It represents Communism," says the homeowner flying these flags.

One Las Cruces resident has stirred up controversy by flying a swastika flag above an upside-down U.S. flag. KFOX-TV reports. Ken Triplett says the display at his home, “…just says the American people need to wake up and understand that communism is going to be taking over.”
The swastika is recognized as the symbol of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party, but Triplett told KFOX that he is not racist in any way and that he is merely trying to make a point.

“It doesn’t disgrace the veterans, it doesn’t disgrace my flag or nothing,” said Triplett.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, the swastika “is widely used, in various incarnations, by neo-Nazis, racist skinheads and other white supremacist groups.”

The Anti-Defamation League notes that traditionally when shown counterclockwise, the swastika was traditionally a symbol of good luck, but considering the context this seems unlikely in Triplett’s case.

Triplett would have been able to better make his point, perhaps, if hes used some symbols associated with communism rather than Nazism.
