UPDATED: Richardson chief of staff cited in Elephant Butte boat accident report

By | 09.09.09 | 3:49 pm

Brian Condit, Gov. Bill Richardson’s chief of staff, has been cited in a boat accident that occurred over the weekend near Elephant Butte.

Here’s the incident report.

Richardson was a passenger at the time on the 81-foot houseboat that Condit was operating, according to the report. Condit was trying to pull the houseboat into a slip in a marina when the vessel hit another craft.

The owner of the houseboat, Leon Fay of Rio Rancho, took control of the craft from Condit, but not before the houseboat struck another boat, this time doing more than $10,000 in damage, according to the report.

Subsequently, Condit was charged with prohibitively operating a vessel in a negligent manner and damaging another person’s boat. Condit told the officer that he had not been drinking alcohol.

UPDATE: Also on the houseboat at the time of the accident was Katherine Miller, Richardson’s budget chief. Miller is secretary of the state Department of Finance and Administration.

The report misspells her name, spelling her name with a C  instead of a K.
