McCamley announces he’s running for PRC seat

Bill McCamley, a Democrat, has declared his candidacy for the Public Regulations Commission (PRC) in District 5, according to a statement sent to the media this afternoon.

“Ethics, health care, energy and economic development will be my focus and my mission on the commission,” McCamley said in the statement.  ”We need a new era of ethical leadership with leaders who are focused on putting people ahead of special interests and narrow agendas.”

“I have a unique perspective since I’ve worked on health policy and I’ve also gone without health insurance,” McCamley said. “As health insurance reform moves forward in America, the PRC has the authority to create and enforce regulations over the state health insurance industry.

“We must protect the average citizen in New Mexico so that costs are cut and that everyone has access to coverage,” McCamley said.

McCamley cited a “strong record on ethics” in his release announcing his candidacy as well as his narrow defeat to Harry Teague in the Democratic primary for the 3rd Congressional District “despite being outspent 3-1.”

McCamley is running to replace Sandy Jones, the Democrat who is running for State Land Commissioner.

The current State Land Commissioner, Pat Lyons, is term-limited and is running for PRC in District 2.
