Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry Montoya is running for State Land Commissioner, according to Santa Fe New Mexican reporter Steve Terrell. Montoya, who ran for the 3rd Congressional District seat last year, joins former Land Commissioner Ray Powell, Jr. and Public Regulation Commissioner Sandy Jones in the race. On the Republican side, Republican Party activist Bob Cornelius is the only announced candidate.

Terrell caught up with Montoya at the Roundhouse Monday, the reporter wrote in his blog.

“I asked him point blank if he’s running and he said he indeed is. I’m not surprised,” Terrell wrote. “He was introduced at the recent lieutenant governor candidate forum as a candidate, and he didn’t put up any argument.”

The current Land Commissioner, Republican Pat Lyons, is term-limited and will be running for a Public Regulations Commission seat next year.
