Riblet, 8, recipient of campaign mailer

On Saturday, my Boston Terrier got his first-ever piece of political mail.

It was a flyer from Martin Chavez written in first-dog narrative, as in: “Our friend Mayor Marty has done MORE for pets than any other Mayor in the country!!!’”

The flyer also highlights improvements at city animal shelters and the fact that Albuquerque was “named one of America’s Top Cities for Dogs by Dog Fancy Magazine.”

“Why did I get this piece of mail?” Riblet asked me, tapping out each letter with his tiny paw.

“I don’t know, boy. Maybe he got your name from city dog license records?”

“Damn it! I told you buying me a license would do nothing but result in junk mail!” he tapped.

“Sorry, buddy.”
