The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government (NMFOG) hot line is now open to help citizens, journalists and public officials who have been denied access to public records or public meetings, the Associated Press reports. If you encounter problems with access, call (888) 843-9121 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, for advice.

NMFOG members include members of the press and media organizations, educators, lawyers and mostly, the general public.

According to its Web site, “NMFOG was created to fill a specific need because public officials and public agencies in New Mexico were–and some still are–often disdainful of the public’s right to know and of the laws intended to insure public access to government decision-making.”
