ABQ Elections: Berry leads with 26 percent of precincts reporting

With 26 percent of precincts reporting in the Albuquerque mayoral election, unofficial election results show Richard “R.J.” Berry continues to lead incumbent mayor Martin Chavez and former state Senate Pro Tem Richard Romero. Berry has 39.24 percent of the vote, Chavez has 35.55 percent and Romero has 25.00 percent. If no candidate earns 40 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will face off again in a runoff election.

Berry led the three mayoral candidates in early and absentee votes, though Chavez has a very slight lead in election day results in the 33 precincts that have reported.
