Agreed tompatrick.
I like her ideals and found them to be refreshing. Do I believe her? Well, the fact that she has expressed these ideas gives her a good place to start.

You seem unable to write without calling people names and/or assigning them to some group. Perhaps you, and we, would be far better off focusing on an issue and an approach, rather that trying to pigeon-hole someone based on their position on a single issue.

In the end we will be saved, or not, by individual approaches to individual issues and not by a liberal, a conservative, a neo-conservative, a far-right winger, a far-left winger, or any other single minded approach it all issues, Bub.

Well your "conservative ideals" aren't very practical if you disagree about government being a public trust. (And why does that have to be in quotes, Heath?) We take from one and give to another all the time with taxation, fees and delivery of government services. All the time. Already.

If not for the interests of the public, who are you running government for? (Wait, I know this one...) In my experience, running government *as* a business means, to some, running government *for* a business.

Nope missed it completely. I know you are not conservative because never once in your rant did you mention personal responsibility.

And I appreciate that you support Janice, however, at this point in the game I can safely say there are at least two other people in this race that are "rational, fair minded, and honestly motivated... someone I trust is trying to do the right things for the right reasons. I have no need for corrupt or stupid politicians of any persuasion (sic)."

So guess what bub, ideology matters and neither you nor Janice have that right. Law is organized justice, that should be the limit of government. Anytime you use govt. to take from one to give to another whether it be at the state or federal level you are cross-ways with conservative ideals. Which is fine just don't go on trying to call yourself conservative by any definition.

You talk like you know what a conservative is... and I'm sure you do in your own mind. Are you an old western fiscal conservative, or the socially oriented former southern democrat turncoat? Barry was a sometimes nutty type of the former for the most part. The only consensus is in your own mind (and maybe a Glen Beck rant). There is no unified theory of conservatism... although the belief in one is the reason the party has become so amazingly ineffective (you only know what isn't by someone else's definition after you disagree with them). I'm not a Bush neocon... don't like em much, and I wouldn't classify Janice that way either. McCain and Bush aren't at all the same, but if you viewed me as being more moderate than you view yourself, and you probably would, you'd call me a RINO I suppose.... but I'm a registered Republican and I vote. Luckily, neither you nor Rush can tell me how. Luckily, just like you, I'm also always right...

Anyway, you litmus- test guys are fine when getting together to guzzle whatever flavor of Kool-aide you prefer, but that doesn't help solve problems or make government more efficient. We forget that at the state level, national politics matter much less. We need the proverbial trains to run on time. We need our kids to be able to read and its nice to drive on real roads. We need to not worry that millions are being wasted through graft, fraud, and cronyism. While there's always room for partisan bickering and therefore plenty of room for those so inclined to indulge, the role of the state government is fundmentally different than the federal (and can be debated endlessly as well). Your point of good intentions is well taken, however my point is that so many aren't. You'd vote for the devil himself if he passed your litmus test, just like many D's would vote for Richardson again or Manny if he were able to run. It doesn't matter to me whether Janice or anyone else at that level is ideologically identical to me, but I do want someone that I believe to be rational, fair minded, and honestly motivated... someone I trust is trying to do the right things for the right reasons. I have no need for corrupt or stupid politicians of any pursuasion.

Please pay attention, the quote was from Goldwater as in Barry Goldwater the father of conservatism. Tom I would wager you are either A) a liberal or B) a neocon. What I cited was not wacko fringe its just plain old conservative, if you meant to say that she is a neocon and you are okay with that, then you should say that. I think you will find the country is becoming tired of Bush neocons like Janice. As for well intended, you know what they say about the road paved with good intentions.... We don't need anymore John McCain RINOs.

Trying to keep the Republican party narrow, intolerant, and ineffective it, eh Thomas?. Good job man! The beauty of being a so called conservative is that you get to tell everyone else how they're not.... by your definition. Granted she isn't on the wacko fringe end of the consrevative spectrum (which I find encouraging), but she is sincere, well intended, hard working, and not on the take. I don't ask for much, but I do ask for those things first. The fact that she's been involved in government and wants to make it work as well as possible is a virtue, and more than can be said more than a few on both sides of the aisle.
