Indigenous people do need to be celebrated more in our country. It would be nice to have a day to celebrate them. However, how many people celebrate or do something special on Columbus Day? There are only some major holidays in which people of this country celebrate. And unfortunately, unless they have a strong opinion, people wouldn't celebrate Indigenous Day either.

First,let's get the fact straight,columbus was a Slave Trader for Spain. He made frequent trips to west Africa, before he got lost in the Atlantic ocean,then upon landing in what he thought was the Indies,began calling the Natives “Indians”, a term that I refute on a daily basis,so thank you for that terminology columbus. He was the first in a long line of Spaniards who committed GENOCIDE on the Native Americans.For this the hispanics and spaniards love to celebrate this on 'columbus day'.Hispanics have to realize that they are mixed race, half Native/Spaniard, the word in spanish is 'mestizo'.so know Ur history…

SO you believe the mass murdering of a Native People is ok. Stealing of their food, women and gold, for profit is all OK. Remember he did lead the LOST exploration, believing he DISCOVERED a land already owned by NATIVE cultures. This should be a slap in the face not to Italians, but to those who are ignorant and cannot see the truth for what it is and what really happened. LET'S be honest and re-write history as it really happened. I am NAVAJO “Diné” born for the edge water people.

A “slap in the face to Italians”?. Typical conservative propaganda. They are trying to blame genocide on the Italians. If I were Italian I would be offended. Vatican maybe, but the Italians never committed Genocide.
