Berry names Darren White and David Campbell to his administration

David Campbell is Mayor-elect Richard Berry’s choice for the city of Albuquerque’s top administrative officer, Berry’s campaign just announced.

Campbell is an Albuquerque lawyer who previously served as an assistant to Mayor Harry Kinney from 1981 to 1983 and as Albuquerque City Attorney from 1989 to 1993. Campbell also holds a masters degree in public administration.

Berry, meanwhile, selected Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White as his public safety chief.

White has served as Bernalillo County Sheriff since 2003 and was re-elected in 2006 with 63 percent of the vote, Berry’s announcement said. Prior to that, White headed up the New Mexico Department of Public Safety from 1995 to 2000.

White made an unsuccessful run for Congress last year, losing to Democratic Rep. Martin Heinrich.

White replaces Pete Dinelli and will be in charge of the overall public safety priorities of the Berry administration, including the police and fire departments, homeland security and emergency preparedness, Berry’s press release said.

Berry said in the release that he chose Campbell as his chief administrator because Campbell is extremely well-respected within the business community, even having an award named after him by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. The Campbell Award is presented to members who volunteer substantial amounts of time to community service, the release said.

Campbell replaces Ed Adams.

“Albuquerque should be a great place to do business and a safe place to live,” Berry said in the release. “I feel strongly that these two professionals will make that vision a reality.”
