Farmington’s Mullins announces run for CD3 seat

By | 10.15.09 | 11:43 am

Tom Mullins, an engineer in Farmington, announced today that he’s running as a Republican for the 3rd Congressional District seat held by Democrat Ben Ray Luján. Mullins will face the Ron Paul-backed Adam Kokesh in a primary. Kokesh had set a goal of raising $100,000 to “clear the field” in the primary, and announced days ago that he met that goal, but he’ll apparently have an opponent anyway.

“New Mexicans of all parties have the Common Sense which tells them we can no longer spend our way to prosperity on the backs and wages of our children or our neighbor’s children,” he states on his campaign Web site. “We each must take upon ourselves more individual responsibility rather than depend upon the state, no matter who may be in power. I look forward to listening to your concerns as I travel our large district.”

Mullins will make a formal announcement on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. in the rotunda at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe, then will hold a “kickoff petition signing announcement event” at the civic center in Farmington at 3:30 p.m., according to a news release announcing his candidacy.

From Mullins’ news release:

“Mullins, a political newcomer, a professional engineer, small business owner, resident of Farmington for over 18 years, and father of two, has announced he will join the race as a Republican.

“Mullins believes that we are all called to serve our country in different ways and at different times in our lives and is prepared to serve the citizens of New Mexico in the 3rd Congressional District. He looks forward to people sharing their ideas and concerns on how to improve our great nation…”
