Gov. Bill Richardson meeting with Senate Democrats

Just after 10 a.m. on Saturday, Gov. Bill Richardson went into a meeting at the Capitol to discuss the budget situation with Senate Democrats. Despite weeks of negotiations, the governor and legislators went into the meeting without any agreement on how to best resolve the budget crisis.

Legislative leaders offered their newest proposal to Richardson Friday afternoon. The governor’s office said it would offer a counter proposal today.

The governor is meeting with the lawmakers in the Senate lounge on the first floor of the Capitol. It’s near the Senate chamber. I was waiting outside the door to the Senate lounge to see if I could grab a few quotes from the governor and lawmakers. But legislative staff asked me to step into the hall, restricting access to lawmakers and the governor.

It’s something New Mexico media have to live with the state Senate. We’ll try to update you with how the discussions went.
