Farmington Republican Tom Mullins launched his bid for the 3rd Congressional District in the rotunda of the Roundhouse early this morning. Mullins said his platform included fiscal responsibility, bringing a common sense approach to government and a return to the values of the Constitution.

Speaking to a nearly empty rotunda, Mullins made few direct references to his potential general election opponent, Congressman Ben Ray Luján. But he seemed to be referring to Luján when he said, “We must stop enacting insane policies and laws. I will vote these down.”

“One common definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Another definition of insanity is electing the same type of politicians over and over again and then expecting different results,” he said.

Mullins said that while federal money has come into the coffers of the city, county and state entities, that money comes with federal strings attached and “these federal strings are strangling and mortgaging our children’s future.”

He decried what he called “government-run health care” and the government regulation of “the very breath that you exhale from your mouth,” saying he looked forward to implementing change in Washington D.C.

Mullins is a Farmington engineer, and will be facing libertarian ex-Marine Adam Kokesh in the Republican primary.
