Edward Avalos, a Las Cruces native and New Mexico State University graduate, has been sworn in as Undersecretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs, according to the Associated Press.
Avalos is now the undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). He was nominated for the position in April of this year.
Avalos was approved by the full Senate on a voice vote on October 8.
The position, according to the current bio on the position at the USDA Web site, “helps to oversee policy development and the day-to-day operations of the 3 agencies that comprise the Marketing and Regulatory Programs mission area: the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the Agricultural Marketing Service, and the Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration.”
