The Senate and House quickly recessed without doing any work after convening and both hope to come back later this afternoon.
The Senate recessed until 2:30 p.m.
The House "could very well come back into session around 3 p.m.," said House Speaker Ben Lujan, D-Nambe.
There was some back and forth between Lujan and House Minority Whip Dan Foley, R-Roswell. Foley wanted the $3.6 million committed to help out Ruidoso moved up the priority list on the governor’s agenda. Lujan said he and the governor realized that it was an emergency but he said he didn’t want the Legislature to pass one bill and then adjourn. Foley said that wasn’t his intention. The people down there are waiting for state help to recover from flooding.
Of course there’s real time and there’s legislative time. Whenever you see a time listed at the Statehouse, tack on an hour or two.
So stay tuned on when the Legislature actually gets back to work.
