Life is hard for you isn't it ? I grew up in the Jim-Crow south. There is
a difference between Christianity and church-going. Don't blame the
messenger just because some people don't understand the message. The things
you profess to be against are found across the whole spectrum of
humanity--left/right/liberal/conservative/religious/pagan/poor/rich/bright/ignorant/educated/uneducated.
Throw the rocks underhanded.

I've spent more time in church than most who profess themselves to be believers. Even planned to enter the ministry at one point--why I've even read the bible. Also been on the receiving end of "christian values" (ever been 'fag-bashed' by a bunch of christians? I have). I know better than most that what most religionists refer to as "values" are code words for exclusion, divisiveness, elitism, and hate.

It is those who profess faith in the supernatural who have the burden of proof; not those of us in the reality-based community.

If you spent some time in a church you might find that it includes left-middle-and right political philosophies. Those Christian values donate a massive amount of money and time to helping the disadvantaged. Study your enemy before you malign them.

Sound analysis. Any chance of it happening? I would include union leaders and federal government officials in your power ladder.

It's clear that pgessing dislikes public investments in enterprises that may (just may) benefit New Mexico, the commons, most of us.They make him livid.
Libertarian livid, that is. Traditional, pro-business conservatives support the subsidies he mentioned. That is why we have the Rail Runner, Spaceport, etc.etc.
And pgessing's last line reveals his politics. Several legislators proposed a roll-back of recent tax breaks for upper-income New Mexicans, not "massive tax hikes." By raising that spectre, by failing to mention who gets taxed and how much, pgessing aligns himself with Allen Weh (see my commentary above) and others who talk about taxes as if we are "in the same boat."
We aren't. (See babyfatt's comment.)
I credit pgessing with unwavering belief, though. His final sentence brings to mind the economic wisdom of the Bush Administration, which spent eight years cutting taxes (mostly on the very rich) and neutering regulation. This, they said, would spur the economy. Instead, these laissez-faire follies made the rich richer, squeezed the middle class, supersized the poor and - oh, yes - brought the nation to the very brink of a second Great Depression.
Shaken, some libertarian true believers are reconsidering their faith - Alan Greenspan and Richard Posner, among them. Not so pgessing.
Arthur Alpert
