Help me understand some of this ... the State budget is in the toilet, we still owe $325 million to balance LAST years budget (during which the Governor and the Legislature refunded $200+ million to citizens in Oct '08), and even after this special session, the current fiscal year appears that it'll be short up to $1 BILLION. The Governor (finally) thought the situation was serious enough to call a special session and he burned the midnight oil preparing for it - presenting the Call for the session three hours after the original start time - and now that they've finished, he is shocked at the outcome - and in acknowledgement of the seriousness of the situation he FINALLY establishes a hotline for citizens to contact his office on ideas of where waste can be cut and reported, he is FINALLY going to consult with state employees for their ideas prior to taking any action! Oh - and he is going to organize another task force, the recommendations of which he'll ignore, just like he has in the past ... he continues to fiddle while Rome burns. His reign of governance has been about the game of politics and what it can do for him - not how politics can benefit the State. The man is simply not in touch with reality any more - he doesn't understand the budget and sees it only as a tool to try and make himself look good - which is why his administration continues to lie on the numbers. Not that I've got an opinion ....

All double dippers should be laid off first. They already have pensions coming in and that will not change for them. Lay them off before you lay off a worker that has not other income. It is the right thing to do.

I was under the impression that the legislature didn't need any warnings about layoffs -- that they were effectively mandating them, especially at the higher pay grades. Is that right?
