Judging by what's happened so far it's hard to imagine the legalized corruption and bribery that runs Congress won't continue to prevail.

That's one way to look at it. I have a more positive view. First of all many healthy young people who are currently uninsured are expected to choose the public option so that will help immensely. Another thing to remember is that when Social Security was first passed, it hardly covered anyone. You have to start somewhere. Legislation is negotiation, not purity.

The goal is just to get a bill out of the Senate, the more conservative chamber. Then it will be combined with the House bill via a conference committee. The House bill will have a stronger public option that will not be "opt out." Joe Lieberman will not be on the conference committee. Once the bill is crafted by the conference committee, it will have to be approved by both chambers, but the pressure will be incredibly intense to pass it at that time and any Dem who fails to vote for it will have hell to pay within their chamber and at election time.

The Republicans have thrown in enough roadblocks that even Democrats are starting to doubt it. Republicans are against health insurance for the general public. Republicans are against the public educational system that educates the majority of our children. The republicans were against Social Security, the Republicans were against medicare.

THE REPUBLICANS ARE AGAINST AMERICANS AT THE LOWER SOCIO ECONOMIC LEVELS.

They take care of the rich!

"In the walls of the cubicle there were three orifices. To the right of the speakwrite, a small pneumatic tube for written messages, to the left, a larger one for newspapers; and in the side wall, within easy reach of Winston's arm, a large oblong slit protected by a wire grating. This last was for the disposal of waste paper. Similar slits existed in thousands or tens of thousands throughout the building, not only in every room but at short intervals in every corridor. For some reason they were nicknamed memory holes. When one knew that any document was due for destruction, or even when one saw a scrap of waste paper lying about, it was an automatic action to lift the flap of the nearest memory hole and drop it in, whereupon it would be whirled away on a current of warm air to the enormous furnaces which were hidden somewhere in the recesses of the building."
George Orwell "1984" (pp. 34-35)
