Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., says the whip count list that showed that Congressman Harry Teague as a “no” on the public option is not authentic, The Hill reports today.
“That document did not come from our office,” Kristie Greco, a spokeswoman for Clyburn, said to The Hill.
The document showed that Teague was among 47 Democrats who said they would vote against health care legislation with a “robust” public option.
“We currently do not have the votes for a robust public option,” Greco told the Plumline yesterday.
A spokeswoman for Rep. Teague said they would contact the Independent with an official position when the final House legislation is rolled out.
