Bill527,

If you don't fit the profile, you should contact your state senator and state rep. Tell them they better not vote to raise your taxes, otherwise they just might. New Mexicans who earn $295K or more, are for sure telling their lawmakers not to roll back the tax cuts handed-out to them in 2003 [which got us into this mess]. The super-rich and out-of-state corporations dominate Gov's Task Force, and are using that access to prevent lawmakers from doing what Research and Polling discovered: 43% of registered voters are less likely to vote for lawmaker who cut education spending in Jan 2010, instead of rolling back tax cuts for the super-rich, and closing tax loopholes for out-of-state corporations. See my blog on this issue: http://dr56279wasright.blogspot.com/

For what it might be worth I don't fit the profile since my '09 income will be less then 4% of that figure but fully expect that when the curtain comes down after the next legislative farce it won't be the fat cats or out of state corporations who end up paying more taxes.

Any state employee that makes a purchase at any retailer that does not pay state taxes on their profits, shoots themseves in the foot.

If they would first, let the "double dippers" go, and then proceed to let some of the duplicate staff that were "apointee" positions go, that alone would save ALOT of money, but of course that won't happen, not here in New Mexico. It'll probably be business as usual, with the employees who only have one source of income and who truly need that one job who will get furloughed and/or axed. Oops !! I mean laid off ! Oops no, I mean "A leave"

Bill527 ---- if you earn $295K or more a year, it's going to come out of your hide, as it should. If you earn $295K or more a year, you've been getting a tax cut of at least $13K a year since 2004. If you got that, what have you done with the money? Certainly didn't use it to create more jobs as promised. 31,000 New Mexicans who had jobs this time last year, don't have jobs now. If you're a stockholder in Walmart, Target, Lowe's, Home Depot, Starbucks or other out-of-state corporations, then this will come out of your hide, too. Cause, those corporations are allowed by lawmakers to NOT pay a fair share of taxes on profits earned when we buy their stuff. So, there. If you fit the profile, get ready to pay more taxes, you're 0.01 percent of the population which has been getting a free ride. It's over.

http://dr56279wasright.blogspot.com/
