Approximately $1 million in federal grants is coming to the state to improve distance learning and telemedicine, the AP reports. The grants are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and will benefit seven counties around the state.

The Farmington school board has awarded $1.4 million to double the size of a local preschool, says the Farmington Daily Times. The Farmington Special Preschool serves around 100 children with disabilities, from speech impairments to autism. Construction should be completed by the start of the 2010-2011 school year.

The Taos News reports on the relationship the nation’s Indian tribes have had with the federal government in the past, and what they hope to build with President Obama.

And The Deming Headlight reports on a SunZia project regarding a transmission line planned to run through Luna County. Regarding a recent meeting, one area resident claims, “If the people (of) Luna County knew where that route was going to go, this room would be full of people.”
