Sadly none of the golden dreams of the powers that be for preserving the status quo are actually sustainable, since in the end they all depend on the continued exploitation of rapidly dwindling resources and the continued existence of a permanent under class. In addition a combination of the extent to which the oligarchy controls the political process and their blind greed is preventing any of the reforms that might forestall or prevent the inevitable collapse of the soap bubble they've created, which might suggest that actually preparing for this eventuality rather then impotently complaining about the current state of affairs could make a difference between surviving the big flip out or not.

Last night my wife and I were talking about Bruce King having died and she said something that might apply to your possibly writing more about the political climate – it was that we'll never see another person as honest and decent as Bruce in public office since nobody with his kind of integrity has got a chance because of the way things are now, what with everyone tearing at one another like a pack of rabid dogs.

Speaking of bad craziness: the newest far-right craze is an anti-Obama slogan making its way onto t-shirts, bumper stickers, mugs, teddy bears and even baby bibs: “Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8,” which reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” It's unclear whether the intent is to hope for an end to Obama's time in office – or an end to his life. Yeah, they pretend they invented “capitalism” here in the good ol' USA. Maybe the banksters invented the predatory part of it, but it has been around for 1000's of years; it's called “trade”.
Anyone who doesn't want to be robbed for obscene profits by the few are apostrophized as being “anti-business”. Nothing could be farther from the truth, of course.
Business usually provides a service. All we're seeing the big bailed out banks doing is using our money to gamble with. It's a zero sum game tails, they win, heads we lose.
There's starting to be a backlash against Summers and Geithner, the two main players who've gotten the Great Depression they “studied” right THIS time. The congressional oversight panel is putting out tentative feelers for firing them.
None too soon I'd say.
Meanwhile. Goldman is doing what Rockefeller did in the 30's, hand out dimes to the poor…er…small (real) business to the tune of 500 million over 5 years! What gents!
Get the rest of the TARP money away from the big banks, bust 'em up and put the dough where it will do the most good….small business.

Least anyone out there think this sounds unreasonable, here's something to add: According to the New York Times the lobbyist for Genentech, an international biotechnology giant, was able to get 22 Republicans and 20 Democratic U.S. House members to make portions of Genetech's position on health care reform legislation into the congressional record during the debate on the bill. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/15/us/politics/1...
