Sarah Palin is headed to a town near you… provided you live in the conservative town of Roswell, New Mexico.

Steve Terrell of the Santa Fe New Mexican reported today that the former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate is headed to Roswell on December 1 as part of promotional tour for her book, Going Rogue: An American Life. Palin will appear at Hastings Books Music & Video. Despite the popularity of her book, a number of recent polls have shown most Americans have unfavorable views of Palin.

A CBS poll showed that just 23 percent of Americans had favorable views of Palin, compared to 38 percent who had an unfavorable view of the former governor from Alaska.

An ABC News poll showed that 43 percent of Americans had unfavorable views of Palin, compared to 52 percent who had favorable views of Palin.

A Rasmussen poll was the first poll in more than a year to show that Palin had a favorability rating of above 50 percent.

Those numbers have seemed to scare off at least two of the Republican gubernatorial candidates — spokespeople for Doug Turner and Susana Martinez both told Terrell they would not be seeking Palin’s endorsement. Allen Weh did not respond by press time, and Janice Arnold-Jones was busy campaigning in Grant County and couldn’t be reached (some areas of rural southern New Mexico have no cell phone reception, let alone internet).

This isn’t a first for Palin; in New Jersey, the Republican candidate distanced himself from the Palin brand. And the Republican, Chris Christie, won. In Virginia, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, Bob McDonnell, initially wanted Palin’s help, but then changed his mind as the election drew nearer. McDonnell easily won election.
