This is really just trickery. Pat Lyons deals with real estate developers and the oil and gas industry has cost us millions in revenues to the permanent fund. His great concern for his employees is just camouflage. Bait and switch.

The Independent would do well to really look hard into these issues at the land office.

It's getting pretty bad for Democrats in New Mexico when the only Republican in state-wide office sounds more like a populist than all the Democrats combined. State employees are completely at the mercy of this corrupt and flailing administration and its Governor Grinch.

The furloughs will only add a measly $10 million toward closing the budget gap. Obviously the legislature in January could make the furloughs unnecessary, by a few budgetary adjustments. It's only $10 million dollars out of billions, people! But Bill has chosen to crack the whip on state workers - as he usually does - just for show.

These furloughs are window dressing; they are just an attempt to show how tough an executive our governor can be, when there's nobody to oppose him. Unions? Ha! Legislators? You're kidding, right?

Big Bill can have his way with few consequences, because he's not running for governor next year. I can think of someone closely associated with Bill who will not have the same luxury. I can think of someone closely associated with Bill who will receive the blunt end of the state worker backlash from these "responsible" budget cuts.

I wonder who the Green Party gubernatorial candidate will be next year? We really need some good progressive candidates on the ballot to wash out the foul taste of DINO out of our mouths from this administration.

True, Mr. Lyons, the classified employees are taking the hit, but the furloughs are not based on the fiscal soundness of their respective agencies. It's disingenuous to suggest that you shouldn't make cuts because of "conservative spending habits". Do the right thing and share some of the burden.
