The teacher who made these comments is an idiot, the teacher is simply looking to get their name out their. The elbow may be excepted in a male sporting event, but pulling somebody to the ground by their hair is not acceptable at any level in any event. The teacher should be happy that this player committed these fouls because it shows how both men and women soccer players exagarate their injuries to the fullest extent. Soccer players need to toughen up and stop thinking everything hurts so bad, its embarassing to watch a man or woman role on the ground 20 minutes for a bruised shin. Play football or rugby and grow up.

The public thrives on and is drawn to depictions of violence so it should come as no surprise that ESPN and others jumped on this incident like flies on stink, basically since every pair of eyeballs watching it on TV or YouTube could be measured in dollar bills. Bleating after the fact about sexism being involved in the amount of publicity this event received has no real bearing on the actual reasons for either the attention it got or its subsequent popularity, since that was entirely a result of its having provided a startling and novel image of one woman physically attacking another. The other sad truth of the matter is that in our culture there's no bad publicity, at least when it comes to weighing what amounts to obscurity against the rewards of notoriety.

Don't be so quick to put down the Europeans - hard core soccer fans over there have made it into much more interesting sport by taking the action off the field and turning what otherwise would be boring games into a venue for physical conflicts between the supporters of rival teams. In fact there are large groups of European fans who come to the games with the specific intent of physically intimidating and/or injuring their opponents, which has led to stadium brawls and riots in which groups of opposing fans have clashed with bats, bottles, rocks, knives and even guns (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_hooliganism" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_hooliganism</a>). Wouldn't it great if some of the random gang activity in our city could be channeled into supporting the UNM woman's team - that could release a lot of pent up aggression and make for some great TV (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmPNqxBRRIQ&feature=related" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmPNqxBRRIQ&feat...</a>).

...and unless there's some kind of 'rule' all the players on Lambert's team should be issued the same kind of protective uniforms, helmets and mouthguards the pampered UNM football team gets - boy would that freak out those sneaky BYU chicks the next time around.

Never mind that Lambert committed 7 fouls on just that one video clip. I understand that hard fouls and slide tackling are part of the game but punching, slapping, hair pulling and kicking a ball into a downed players face are not, no matter what the gender of the players are.

Lambert is a WOMAN getting a WOMANS SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP to play WOMANS SOCCER. She shoud act accordingly. No one says she has to act "ladylike". Sure soccer is a tough physical sport. The way she acted was not tough, physical, or sport. She acted mean, petty and bitchy. And checking out the espression on her face, enjoyed it! If she does not want to honor her scholarship to UNM by being a great representative of UNM then she should pay that money for her education back. Stop with the sexict garbage. Men do NOT act like that. If they did, they would be branded as pussys. That would be sexist. By the way, I'm a 65 year old gal who loves soccer.

We want MORE violence, the hell with all this pansy stuff about fair play, this team needs to stop pussy-footing around and start playing soccer like Australian rugby - no holds barred. Doing this is guaranteed to increase the size of their audience, bring in big bucks and get them more time on ESPN “Sports Center”. Come on, it's time to follow Lambert’s lead and get this stupid euroweenie game off it's butt.

"Sexist", my eye! I've played and coached soccer for 20 years and that kind of play is filthy. Any of my players doing that kind of stuff (not just the punches and hair pulling, but the high tackles, sliding in with cleats up, et) would be on the bench if not off my team. She's an adult for cripes sake and is responsible for her own actions. The fact that she's a woman has nothing to do with the fact that her play on the pitch was dirty, dirty, dirty. I've never seen such outrageous play in a soccer game, ever. The same would hold true if we were talking about a man. So can the "sexist" allegations and let's call a spade a spade. Elizabeth Lambert is a goon.
