NMI to present IPRA seminar Dec. 1

So you’re looking for some information that can only be found the public records of a government agency or office–but when you request those records, you hit a brick wall. What do you do? The New Mexico Independent is teaming up with the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government and KNME-TV to present a free seminar on the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) and how to obtain government information.

The seminar will be webcast live, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

It will also be archived here for you to watch any time.

We’ll talk about what’s considered a public record in New Mexico, how to request records, what the law requires of government agencies, and what options you have if you receive a denial. Arm yourself with the facts for your next records battle!

There is a very limited number of seats available for the free seminar, which will take place in the KNME-TV studio, and preference will go to KNME students and students in other journalism-related programs. The seats will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants joining the webcast will have the opportunity to submit questions for the presenters.
