Here's an experiment those who don't think (insert emphasis) that CO2 “is a harmful thing” can perform.
WARNING: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY THIS AT HOME OR ANYWHERE ELSE.
Start by purchasing a CO2 fire extinguisher (the five lb size will do nicely). These can be identified by their having a red casing with a black band to denote that they contain carbon dioxide, the contents will also be written on the extinguisher, usually in white lettering.
The next step is to get into your vehicle and select a place to park where you won't be interrupted. Then roll up all of the windows, lock the doors also turn off the heater or air conditioning).
Follow the instructions on the extinguisher for its use, which typically consists of pulling a safety pin and then squeezing a handle or trigger. In this application you do not need to be concerned about the specific direction of the discharge nozzle or horn but it should be aimed away from your face and body as the CO2 gas is very cold when released – in fact it is very important not to hold the horn or nozzle with your hand because it will become cold enough during use to freeze your hand to it. Also CO2 fire extinguishers make a great deal of noise during use, so be prepared for this.
Keep the handle or trigger depressed fully until the extinguisher is empty.
If you follow these instructions [DO NOT FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS} the odorless and colorless CO2 gas will quickly fill your vehicle and reach a high enough concentration to be lethal, which will kill you. This should demonstrate that CO2 is not entirely harmless.
WARNING: PERFORMING THIS EXPERIMENT WILL RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH – MOST LIKELY DEATH.

Its obvious the solution is a government bounty on the production of carbon dioxide. That would stimulate the economy to boot. So I recommend a subsidy on fuel at the pump. Let's subsidize it it down to 19 cents a gallon, just like it was in the 1960s. Then Detroit could get back to doing what it does best, building gas guzzling muscle cars. Glory days are coming back!

Carbon dioxide is good for plants but deadly for other carbon based life forms, like numbskull politicians for instance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercapnia
