Saturday night, the U.S. Senate voted 60-39 to invoke cloture and begin debate on a health care reform bill. The debate will begin after the Senate gets back to Washington D.C. after Congress’ Thanksgiving recess.

The vote to invoke cloture was on a party line vote, with Democrats and independents Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut voting to begin debate while all Republican present voted against beginning debate. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, missed the vote to celebrate the 30th anniversary of becoming the mayor of Cleveland.

Both Tom Udall, D-N.M., and Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., voted to begin debate on the bill.
