So, what is the answer? If we live in New Mexico, and get an emergancy call from a family member that we need to go and see them in lets say California, can we get on an airline with just our Driver's license or do we at the present day, March 31, 2010, need to also have a passport to fly from NM to CA?

What about the US citizens that can't get a passport? Any person that has Child Support arrearment (of more tht $1500.00 I believe) will not be issued a passport. There are people that thier Child Support orders were retroactive and, even though they have made all of thier payments in full and on time, they owe thousands of dollars. These peope are not "dead beat parents" and do not deserve to be treated like them. I, personally will not be able to fly to where my kids live to see them if I have to have a passport and cannot afford to take several more days off work to drive that far. What are we supposed to do?

I have no problem proving I am a USA citzen by applying for the passport. The drivers license does not do that. But if New Mexico is giving these foreigners a green pass by issuing licenses to these people are who illegally in the USA I like the Real ID. It does not take away from your freedom's. Its just making it harder for these foreigners who are coming into the USA to attack us or steal our jobs harder. Stop crying. Your freedoms are not gone. Go get in that passport line.

Why do we pay for our driver license if it does not meet government criteria? Is this only nm? I have a sister flying from Washington State to Texas in March of 2010. I heard no she doesn't need a pass port an oh yes she does. I even contacted the air line an got two different answers.

If anything, having a Driver's License would help the government find, "Them." My mother is an alien and has had a NM DL for about 45 years. If she needs to prove her citizenship, she pulls out a different card.

Your Driver's license has nothing to do with your nationality or citizenship. It only shows you can drive, and your identity. Your passport or alien ID card etc proves your citizenship.

Because NM wants to help illegal aliens get DL's and not help government find them. We should all have to prove our citizenship status to get a DL.

This is one more form of state and government control. There go our rights to come and go as we please. What if a family member in another state dies and we don't have a passport? Are we able to drive out of state with out a passport? What if someone has been convicted of a felony can they even get a passport? Hello NM is on the map of The United States!!!! Maybe I won't pay Federal Taxes anymore!
