The article did not say what Representative Lujan's letter to Homeland Security said. Frankly this article is very strange, since last summer the renewal of drivers licenses has required biometric imaging on them in addition to other facets which is not being disclosed. The state had a bill to coincide with the National ID Act, which did not pass, and had millions in appropriations for the implementation. The State's Bill died with the Federal Bill, but they used the money anyway in purchasing equipment. The ACLU of NM apparently approved this violation of our civil rights although the National organization of the ACLU does not support biometric imaging on driver's licenses considering it to be a violation of privacy. Sorry, but the figures on the amount appropriated and the state Bill number is filed away somewhere. If anyone wants I will try to locate them and identify them, or you can do your own search. I tried to talk with various offices about this but all I was told is you must agree to biometric licenses or you do not get a driver's license. We are one of very few states to go along with this. Not a good mark for Bill Richardson.
